Well, I started out the year strong with journaling for the girls but life got busy and here it is September and I have not posted a single thing since Chinese New Year. Keeping the text short is really easy. Living close to home has been great, over the last 6 months the girls and I have spent a ton of time in Texas with family and friends just enjoying life. I can only think of a few major milestones:
End of May 2010
Kaylyn decided she was ready to wear big girl panties. She is doing amazing and only wears pull ups at night.
Kaylyn also decided that she was ready to start talking much more. She will still require speech therapy but has come a long way.
End of July
The girls attended vacation bible school for the first time a Second Baptist Church in Kingwood, TX with friends. I volunteered in their classroom and it was an amazing week watching them grow. They were very nervous about the experience but within moments were overjoyed with being there. It was wonderful watching them learn about the Lord and embrace the experience. Not to mention shouting praise songs at the top of their lungs :)
August 26th
The girls had their six month check up with their dentist and both got a frown from him. Abba is a thumb sucker and Kaylyn loves her binky. I am a believer that children find secuity in certain items. For some it is a bottle, blanket, stuffie, thumb or binky. And I am also a believer that when they are ready they will put it down, so why push them until they are ready. I promise you they will not go off to college with a binky or thumb in their mouths. With that being said we knew our girls would likely need braces but as the dentist not so nicely pointed out it can be worse than that. Eventually thumb or binky sucking not only causes the teeth to protrude but can cause problems with the jaw. Jaw correction surgery sounds awful as it would require the jaw to be broken, trimmed down and put back properly. Obviously we do not want either of our girls to endure unnecessary surgery so we had to enforce no thumb and binky sucking. The first night was very sad, they both whined all night. Abba pleaded with me that she was not ready, she talked as if she were having to give up her best friend. They managed to only whine but I layed in bed listening to them and just cried my eyes out for them. BUT we made it through that night and it gets easier everyday. When Kaylyn thinks about her binky she tells me dentist said no, no, no and Abba she is having a harder time with her thumbs but has not even once put it in her mouth. We bought some adorable thumb covers from www.thumbuster.com and they are the perfect reminders while she is sleeping. They both have a chart that is eight weeks long and they put stickers on each day and at the end of the eight weeks they get to pick a prize.
Enjoy the pics!!!
